MREs (meals ready to eat) have long been a staple of troops in the field and a replacement of C-RATS (canned rations). Recently, MREs of improved quality and variety, such as the vegetarian meal pictured here, have appeared on the scene. Regardless of whether a Soldier's sustenance is coming from an MRE, a mess hall, a PX on base, or a home-cooked dinner, nutrition is paramount in allowing that Soldier to achieve and maintain optimum readiness and performance. Find out more about the nutrition-readiness connection here.
