HEARING AND VISION

Hearing and vision are two senses that most of us take for granted. Either our hearing and vision are naturally good, or they are correctable via hearing aids, glasses, or contact lenses. But preserving those senses is harder than ever before, given the array of loud noises and new visual technologies available in today's world. Military personnel, who depend on their senses for the safety of their fellow Soldiers and the effectiveness of the mission, need to be especially conscious of preventing hearing or vision loss. Check out the articles in this section for some tips on keeping as sharp as possible, and watch this site location as new tools are added to assist you in monitoring your hearing and vision health and readiness!

Hearing Conservation
Hearing loss caused by loud noise becomes permanent and is not medically treatable. Impaired hearing can cause serious or fatal mistakes at work or in training and combat situations. Good hearing is critical to the success of the Army mission, both in offensive and defensive operations. Practically all noise-caused hearing loss occurs during work and routine training exercises! Visit these pages to learn how to prevent hearing loss on the job.

Vision ConservationVision Conservation
Vision is one of the most powerful weapons in a Soldier's arsenal. An eye injury can happen to any Soldier, of any rank, in any line of work. Ninety percent of all eye injuries are preventable. Therefore, it is important to train personnel and supervisors about vision safety and conservation, including the use of proper eye safety devices.
