Cancer - Reduce Your Risk

Here's the good news...

Reduce your risk for life.
Make these four simple changes:

  • Eat the prevention diet on case.
  • Don't smoke.
  • Wear sunscreen and protective clothing in the sun.
  • Limit alcohol to 1-2 drinks a day.

IF YOUYOU'LL REDUCE YOUR RISK OFPLAN OF ACTION
Eat RightColon, rectum, stomach and uterine cancer. Symptoms are changes in bowel or bladder habits, abnormal vaginal/rectal bleeding or cramps.Eat low-fat and low-cholesterol foods, more fresh fruit, vegetables and high-fiber grains. Eat foods rich in vitamin A and C. Eat 5 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
Maintain Healthy WeightColon, uterine, prostate, and breast cancer. Symptoms are changes in bowel/bladder habits, unusual bleeding in urine or stool, or lump in breast.Maintain proper weight for age and body type. Stop SmokingLung, mouth, larynx, uterus, kidney, esophagus, bladder, pancreas and stomach cancer. Any of the 7 warning signals might be a symptom.Stop smoking cigarettes (even filter tips), cigars, pipes, inhaling snuff and chewing tobacco. Get help in stopping if you can't do it alone.
Limit AlcoholMouth, jaw, cheek, throat, esophagus, tonsils, liver and pancreas. Any one of the 7 warning signals could be a symptom.Limit alcohol intake to 1 to 2 drinks a day, especially if you smoke. Heavy usage of liquor, wine or beer is believed to increase risk.
Manage StressWeakens the immune system, making your body less resistant to invasion by cancer cells. Cancer can occur anywhere in the body. See 7 warning signs.Learn to manage stress; relax, express emotions. Accept there are things you can't change.
Protect Yourself From SunExcessive exposure to sunlight may lead to skin cancer. Signs are a spot, pigment, lump or mole that grows, oozes, bleeds, or changes appearance in a short time.Stay out of sun between 10am-3pm. Do not sunbathe. Use at least an SPF 15 sun-screen. Cover skin with clothing and wear wide brimmed hat. Be sun-wise: follow sun protection guidelines.
Avoid Hazardous MaterialsExposure to some chemicals can lead to many types of cancer depending on the nature of the substance. Any of the 7 warning signals can be a symptom.Avoid contact with chemicals, metals, dusts and fibers by wearing protective clothing and safety equipment. Follow health and safety regulations.
Avoid Unnecessary X-RaysVarious types of cancer can result from frequent X-rays. Any of the 7 warning signals can be a symptom.Too many X-rays can be dangerous. Talk to your doctor and dentist about the need for each X-ray. Wear protective shields.
Get Early Detection ScreeningsEarly detection screenings can save your life. They find many types of cancer in its early stages.
